It's not good to run cold, you don't get proper combustion, I would suspect a stuck open t-stat or possibly a faulty temp guage/sender. Do the risers get hot?

Re: OMC running Temp

I had a the same problem with my 2.3 omc. The boat is 15 yrs. old, and I bought it from my uncle. He said it always has run cold (guage never moved), and He also said he never changed the outdrive impeller. To make a long story short when I took the old impeller out to the parts house. They looked up the numbers, and the impeller was for a v8 engine. The right impeller was 1/2 the thickness. The bigger one caused too much water to come up to the engine, and the thermostat never opened. My temp is fine now. Either my uncles memory is no good, or it came that way from the factory. Just an idea to check.
