I have a 1979 OMC Sail Drive Zephyr on my 28' O'Day. I am getting water in the cylinder. My mechanic has replaced all seals and says there are no cracks... but the water is still seeping in. Does anyone have any advice as to what I should tell my mechanic to look for? I know very little about motors and even less about this Sail Drive unit.

hahahaahhaa
it isnt even a good anchor :)
its most likly a blown head gasket or a bad exhaust housing. I actually know where a brand new housing is. someplace about here I think I still have a 79 saildrive service manual. ill look for it, ill never ever work on another so I wont need it.
changing a water pump is an act of god, congress and cursing.
could also be a clogged or partially clogged muffler, if used. most used a version of the naqua lift muffer. if partially clogged it can bleed water back to the engine.

Thanks... I didn't think about the muffler. I'll pass that along to my mechanic. I think the water pump is working fine. After replacing the gaskets it ran once before getting water into the cylinder again but while it was running the water was pumping out with the exhaust. I do have a service manual... many years ago I thought I paid too much to order one from a company that stocks such things since I didn't get one when I bought the boat. Now the price is long forgotten and I'm glad to have it. I may get back to you about the exhaust housing after discussing your comments with my mechanic.

Thanks so much...
