I am looking to purchase a super clean 1987 Tiara 2700 Open but I a hesitant because she is powered by (2) OMC Sea Drives with approximately 600 origional hours. The steering has had extensive repair work and looks as if the hoses need to be replaced again. If I can purchase the vessel at a good price should I run it for as long as possible and then replace those motors with a bracket and outboards or should I avoid the potential problems and repower immediately?

Re: OMC Sea Drives

XBison - Welcome potential fellow SeaDrive owner. I have a pair of 1.6L 1987s on the back of a 23' Wellcraft & had this rig for 10 years. Not problem one with the SeaDrives. I have had both powerheads redone but not due to the SeaDrives.

I had one powerhead redone last year. A couple of shops tried to convince me to scrap the SeaDrives & get a single big new Yammy - - for $15K (motor, bracket, glass work, controls, guages & rigging). No thank you - I can replace/rebuild a pile of the old V4s for that kind of money.
