omc shaft

:mad:was out boating and broke my lower unit vertical drive shaft i am in california and mechanics are rediculously priced next to a frekin lawyer if you will lol. my question is how hard is it to replace that shaft? i have already split the cases and can pull on it but a nut or something is holding it down inside the lower and the manual i have aint so depictive:( it is a omc 800 stringer full mechanical shift 1984 is the mfg year hey howard sterndrive!!! where are you man?

Unless you own the shimming gauge for setting pinion depth, have a pro do it. Mechanics are expensive for a reason, as gearcases are no place for a amature to be fooling around in.

yep yer right i do know how to use the shimming gauge to set the pinion clerance and install correct amount of shims but i dont own one nor intend to purchase it nor the two other omc special tools pullers etc.. it's goin to shop i was quoted 4 hours does that sound right to you zbnutcase, thanks for replying
