omc shift rod

I have a 98 omc 115 intruder that i just replaced the impeller on, what i am having issues with when i dropped down the lower unit my shift shaft that has a angle on it was facing towards the front the manuels say it has to face the rear dont know if it turned when droppig down the lower unit. Also when i put the lower unit back up does it have to be in forward or reverse sinse i had it in forward when dropping it down does it have to be in forward when puttig it back up or does it make any differance anf information would greatley be appreciated.

Disconnect the control cable on the mtr coming from the control box. It makes it eaisier. Normanally you can have the l/u in forward. What manuals do you have?? Haven't got my OMC manuals with me right now to check the shift rod position as to facing forward or backward. I'm sure somebody will chime in.

ihave the seloc manuel for omc 1992-01, and the evenrude service manuel

Just got home. Screw the seloc manuals and follow the Evinrude manual. The off set faces forward but go by the Evinrude manual for correct shift rod adjustment height.
