Re: OMC Spitfire ignition conversion

thanks for the tips HT. Pulled the boat out of the garage in between rain showers and test fired my new ignition system. Started right up and ran a little rough. Used my timing light to set the correct timing and she is running GREAT! The true test will be in the water as soon as I get the weather. Shifting is my concern now, but, I'm very pleased with the ignition conversion. I've wired it to ground the coil through the Shift interupter and when I manually depress the interupter switch it stalls the engine as it should. We will see how she shifts out of gear when shes in the water, maybe in the next couple weeks. Lets go boating!!! :D

Think positive! There'll be NO problems!!

Re: OMC Spitfire ignition conversion

Final post!!! Nicest day of the year in Seattle so far!!! Put the boat in the water to test for the first time. Ran good on the muffs in the driveway, but this was the first sea trial. Dropped her in and she fired right up! shifting seems just fine(my main concern) in and out of gear no problems. I pulled her off the trailer and away we went! 2 hr sea trial Bainbridge Island and around Elliot bay. Runs great!! and shifts better than I remember. Some minor adjustments to take the slack out of the shift cable was all that was needed(prior to sea trial):cool. If anyone needs info on this swap just drop me a line, I would be glad to help. JG

Re: OMC Spitfire ignition conversion

I think I need to do this to my 1991 King Cobra 454 was thinking of using an MSD setup, can anyone send me a diagram in how to hook this up???

My starboard enging keeps dying when hot and will not start untill it cools off.

Re: OMC Spitfire ignition conversion

I've read most of the post about the conversion from the spitfire ignition too a distributer type ignition. But have not been able too get much info as too witch Mallory or MSD distributor or coil or resister to get.

I have a 1991 OMC 454 with the spitfire ignition and need too do this conversion. Can anybody clue me in on the part numbers they used to do this?

Any help would be great, I think I'm the last idiot on earth that has one of these ignitions, and nobody knows what the hell I'm talking about when I ask about any conversion parts.:

Thanks
