I have a 1981 omc 800 series powered by a 3.8L GM V6. I am trying to figure out how the power steering is hooked up. I have what looks to be a hydraulic ram, which is connected with hydraulic lines to another hydraulic apparatus. This "apparatus" is then connected via cable to the steering wheel. Can anyone tell me how i put this all together and how it is connected to the tiller arm on the intermediate housing. Thanks, any suggestions are much appreciated

Re: Omc Steering

If you do have "power steering " then you will have a pump that runs off of your engine via a fan belt. Pretty much the same as in your vehicle.
Sounds to me like you just have hydraulic steering - more than likely a
Hynautic system - which is no longer in business.
Before this goes on you really need to be a little more specific other than
apparatus.
As Chiefalen requested, some pics would certainly help clarify this.

Ya I thought that apparatus was a little vague. It does have a power steering pump, driven by a belt. A power steering hose runs from the pump to the "apparatus" which I now know is the ACTUATOR & VALVE ASSY. I will try to get some pics up too, thanks for all your help.
