Come on guys, I know one of you out there needs to get that clutch apart and cleaned because it's waaaay past due for servicing. Take that pupply apart, and let me know which way those springs go. Pleeeeeeease. :D

I have two...one is totally apart and in a can ... and the other is where it was designed to be - being used in the boat ... and they are both different slightly as I mentioned earlier.

It just so happens that I have a new tilt seal kit that has to be put in and I am doing it this weekend...I will clean the clutch pack good take many pics of that animal in many different angles for you...

And if by chance you are missing something, PM me, my original 83 is the one apart in the can and I will mail you what you need since this thread has been going on for so long.

Thread Fact: IF you google these three terms together,*** OMC Belleville tilt *** the fourth entry down is the "Ultimate Guide To OMC Power Tilt System" in PDF format.

(I was going to ask the moderator to add it to his technical must have list but copyright hawks have that list deleted.)

This guide doesn't have your pic, but someone may eventually google up this thread and want to see how OMC tilt works because its a notorious OMC gotcha, and this one is on of the better explainations I have ever read.

I shot this a few minutes ago. It is the OMC stringer 800 (circa 1983) tilt clutch fully disassembled and part by part breakout of how it goes back together. Also a quick discussion on tightening the clutch to adjust slippage.

From this video reassembly should be fairly straight forward. Enjoy.

Edit: Two more video's added to complete the series

Tilt and Clutch from Intermediate Housing vantage point

Tilt Solenoid and wiring from engine room vantage point

You are the man Studdy! I can't thank you enough for the video. :D So we now know, they all go in the same direction. I even asked people at one of the local boat shops, and they didn't know either.

If you can send me that part, I would be Extremely grateful. I need that smaller spacer that goes on top of the springs. They are $10 everywhere I've seen + shipping. Im sure you could just mail it in a regular envelope for $.50 or whatever it costs for a stamp now days. Let me know what you want for it. Thanks a million!

Nice vid there studdy! That should be stickied for the rest of the OMC guys! Good thing I didn't put money on which way those springs went! :D:D And I still can't find the diagram I had when I did mine. My wife was wondering why I was digging through piles of papers & files throughout the house, muttering to myself "tilt clutch........tilt clutch......, where's the d@mn tilt clutch......." :D

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.
