Hello,

I have search the Forum. and i keep getting two answer.

IMAG0450.jpgIMAG0451.jpgIMAG0449.jpg

I will need to Perform an Oil Change on the Intermediate Housing, top and lower end unit. Using oil from Walmart 80/90 W Gear Oil for ONLY 1 season to Flush out all the Crap out of it.

But I'm worry its an electric shift Stern drive which i know i could only use Type C OIL

.. I have attached a picture. and need assistant from you guys who knows better..

also. The top end of the stern drive should not be over Filledn as it may cause damage.
The Upper Sterndrive has a Dip Stick which has a Line. and the Oil should never pass that line. correct?

It's not an electric shift. Use the 80/90 W Gear oil in both the upper and lower. And the oil level should come right to the dip stick line.

I assume you will be changing to marine gear lub after the flush.

The intermediate housing uses 90 weight oil but they don't normally have a drain plug. Have you checked the oil in the clutch housing for the tilt. It takes 30 weight.

If your talking about the clutch housing. You don't want to make it too slippery or the drive may not stay down in reverse.

Yes, I'm talking about the clutch housing.. I remember just using/packing it with grease. But then I was walking around walmart and I notice there is a tilt oil.

Some will pack it with grease as opposed to oil. I've not done that myself, but I've heard it works well.

That looks like a full mechanical (post 1981 I think). 80/90 weight as recommended already.

I packed my tilt housing with grease but my clutch packs were shot so I pinned them together. Oil would drain out too easy with any play in the gear shaft. Grease works well for keeping the water out.

I use 80W90 in all 4 compartments of the 400/800 mechanicals. Int, Upper, Lower and tilt clutch (somewhere between packing grease and original 30 wt is 80W90 afterall).
Makes life simpler.

I use Mercury/Quicksilver High Performance gear lube (blueish/green stuff) in my Cobra, its one of the better ones out there and easy to find. You might also want to pick up some new gaskets for the drain/fill plugs.

The Quiksilver High Performance gear lube is just a semi synthetic 90 weight, and can be used in any of the older units except the electric shift.
