I have an OMC sterndrive that has had gear problems 3 times. Is there an easy way to convert to Mercruiser or Volvo? Is there any other heavy duty replacement options or suggested solutions?
Well you can convert it to a Volvo SX (they used a similar transom mount since Volvo bought OMC's sterndrive division) but it is not cheap<br />for info on this check out the thread on this in the major projects forum of<br />www.baylinerownersclub.org<br />also check out www.sterndrives.ca/<br />look for the OMC/Volvo section<br />But who did the rebuilding, my experience with the Cobra is that if it is set up right they are pretty durable.<br />don't forget the shift cable adjustment is pretty critical on any sterndrive.
