Re: Omc Sterndrive Tilt Problem

Just reading your post, you mentioned the two red circuit breaker buttons? Am i missing something? I know there is a breaker on the relay block, are there more! My engine is 1989 did they have them fitted that early ?

Not sure, some of the early cobras had the two big fuse holders mounted on the rear stbd side of the motor instead.

Ok, looking at the engine bow to stern. My connector plug is situated on the port side. If there were more circuit breakers what would they look like. There is a heap of wires in that area but mostly running from the distributor, coil. and what I think is a voltage regulator. Sorry to be a numbskull but still learning about the engine

Just looking ahead, if the switch is faulty or the wires in the throttle are broken .How difficult is it to remedy?

As for the circuit breakers look for red buttons about 3/8" diameter if you see one push it in.

It depends on the remote how hard it is to change the switch.

Re: Omc Sterndrive Tilt Problem

Hi again. Checked the plug near to the engine.Definitely power from there to the motor so problem is from plug to switch. However, when I jumped the terminals on the plug to activate the motor all I could hear was a click, not unlike the noise a solenoid makes. Any ideas why motor wont work, I did run a feed direct from the battery and that worked it fine.Got to admit I am stumped?

Re: Omc Sterndrive Tilt Problem

I would suggest you go back up to the link I posted earlier, go back through the troubleshooting section again. This time post your actual voltage readings for each step, 1 through 6.
Then we can tell you where your problem is.

I didn't read the trobleshooting portion so maybe it's included, But make sure both ends of wires A&B are connected securly and free of corrosion.

Re: Omc Sterndrive Tilt Problem

Hi guys. Success, found one of the connections to be loose so sorted it now. BUT! Have you ever heard the phrase 'just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water'. Operated the sterndrive up and down, motor running fine but sounded a little strange. Looked overboard and saw a small puddle of red hydraulic fluid. Oh Great, just great! Anyway had a good look and one of the hoses appears to be split. I think its been rubbing against the cowling that goes over the drive. I think the fluid may be low and the pump was begining to starve. Anyway the problem hose, as you stand at the stern looking forhead, its the one on the starboard side cylinder on the tilt up pressure side. The other hose has a metal pipe extension that one looks ok, gather thats the down stroke. Guys how difficult is it to replace this hose, any advice would be grateful.
And thanks to all for helping me with the tilt problem.

Re: Omc Sterndrive Tilt Problem

Hi guys. Still need some help re the hydraulic hose issue. I have studied the manuals all morning and can see that the drive needs to come off. How hard is it from there and if I dont touch the engine will the drive shaft go back in easily without the use of an alignment tool?

It's kind of a pain in the ***** to do. Get a Manual and follow directions. You donot need to do alignment to re-install the drive. If you remove the bellows to access the lines put a new one on.
