i have a 84 omc stringer with the trucourse steering i installed a new cable and just my luck the cable is backwards. when i steer to the left it goes to the right and when i steer to the right it goes to the left. what are the ways to fix this? i know one way is to pull off the drum and redrill the steering shaft. is there any other way?

the second one is since day one of me buying the boat it has always been very hard to turn to the right i thought it was the cable so i changed it..no luck same problem. does the little single trim tab on the cavitation plate help fix this( not sure if its called a cavitation plate)? if not what can i do. it steers easy when wanting to go in left direction but very hard to steer to the right. that is when the wheel steers in the correct direction not like it is now.

thanks for any help

To fix your reverse steering, reverse what you did! Remove the cable and re-wind it the correct way.

Adjusting the tab on the cavitation plate may very well solve the hard-steering problem. Make very small adjustments at a time though!
