i have a 84 with mechanical shift. the proble that i have it not the cable on the outdrive, but the actual shift cable from the throttle control. my control is a single handle morse style. ive adjusted it every which way and cannot get it right ive tried adjusting it from the throtte box then tried at the shift interrupter. to be more in detail it seems like the cable is too long and if i get it good one way it seems like fwd is good then reverse is a pain. if i adjust it the other way reverse is good and fwd is a pain. can some one please help me figure this out. thanks

the way those helm control cables sometimes fail, the inner core wire starts to break inside causing the symptom you describe

Re: omc stringer shift cable help

the cables are new teleflex i think the 3300. they have the omc conversion pieces on them. i cant for anythink get them adjusted right. i think i have to oval the hole so it has slop does that sound right? the hole that slips on the little stud on the interrupter arm that then gets cotter pinned.
