I have a 19ft 85 tara 3.8 V 6 stringer been a good boat except for the lower end have had it worked on twice the first time I was taken for sure for 1400 the second time it cost 1800, but I did hit a rock hard enough to make the back of the boat jump, but since then nothing more than a sand bar, have limited use since I had it fixed even though I live next to a lake last year it would run fine then die , from the posts on here I belive its a clogged vent line I have a bunch of dirt daubbers around here , today the lower unit started hesitating a little before going into gear thern acting like it jumped it was was fine while cruising when I started to take it to the trailer it started grinding more before it went into gear,, is this a shifting problem or is it a major lower unit disaster and how do I tell what it is don,t want to be taken again or dump alot more money into a stringer could use some good advice thanks

Swingman
I think you would get more replys in the I/O sterndrive section.
Are you sure it is a stringer, 1985 was the start of the cobra drive. If it is a stringer what HP is it and is it a 400 or 800?
