I am replacing the Swivel Bearing Assembly on the Lower Unit. After removing it I noticed the lack of a gasket I expected to see when I removed it. In its place was at best what I would describe was caulk. Has a rubber feel to it and is red in color. Although I have a new gasket on the way, I thought I would post what I found here. Is the caulk a bypass procedure to finish the job or is this a newer and better way to seal this Assembly to the to Lower Unit? 1975ish OMC High Profile 225HP.

Sounds like someone's idea of a "quick" fix in lieu of the proper gasket.

Re: OMC Swivel Bearing Assembly

Thanks Kagee,

The Lower Unit was replaced prior to me purchasing it. One of the reasons I replaced the Housing was because one of the Zirk Fittings was missing and I was not comfortable that the seals were still good. I am now kind of glad I replaced it.
