can anyone refer me to a omc tech in Kansas City? I am wanting to find a competent tech to have in case I get into trouble that I cant handle. I have called around but of course they will tell me that they can work on it but I wanted to find out if anyone can give me a word of mouth reference. Thanks.

What exactly do you have? and yes, you are prudent to get a reference. I have a OMC dealer friend, in Portland Oregon, who gets drives shipped to him all the time to fix the 'experts' fixes.

Re: omc technician in Kansas City

I have a 90 omc cobra with a 4.3. I was just putting this out there to see if anyone had a mechanic around here that I could fall back on. It would be nice if there was a place on this forum that everyone that had a great experience with a tech could post their name and location and number. Don't get me wrong, I would much rather do all my own work and I have managed to up to now. However I have recently purchased my boat and I would really like to get my shift cables replaced but I do not wish to experiment with my (not cheap) drive. I have a omc manual and with it I managed to r&r the motor due to a cracked block(however I had a machine shop do the internal engine work). I now have it running at what I feel is 100%. But now I have my tilt motor that quit. Thanks to having the manual with me(in the truck) I was able to manually raise the unit and at least pull it out of the water. I am now just rambling about my "used boat syndrome" so I'll quit now. That guy in OR must be some tech to have the drives shipped to him. Hows that for job security:cool:
