Hello,

I'm new to this site and wanted to tell you that I find it's packed full of good info in just the short amount of time I've been here.

I also wanted to ask about an OMC test wheel I'm looking for for my 1981 Johnson 70hp model #J70ELCIH. It seems that I'm getting confused about the cast numbers on the tedt wheel themselves. Is the cast number the actual part number or does it equate to a part number instead? I get conflicting reports. I have been told that the test wheel that has the casting number 315983 equals part number 386665, is that true?
Someone also told me that OMC test wheel casting number 314230 equals part number 386665? Is thaer somewhere that I can find what the casting numbers equal if this is so? Not sure how to insert images on here of the wheels in question. Thanks in advance for any help

Yes indeed, casting numbers will equate to a particular test wheel. Don't know them off the top of my noodle and since I'm home and don't have my handy special tools catalog, that's about all I can relate right now. Could be one of the other guys can give you more info.

You cannot count on casting numbers equating to final part numbers. However, that might be the case here. The exception would be if the same casting was used with a different hub for a different motor. Or in some cases they will machine away a portion of the fins or rim to make it suitable for a smaller horsepower.

On any OMC/BRP parts the casting number is for the part as it comes from the mold. That is the final part number only if the part is used or sold "as cast" Any other operations performed on the casting changes the number. A certain casting may be machined to become several different final parts.

Thanks for the info guys...

What special tools catalog are you talking about and where can I get one? I talked to a guy who has test wheel casting number 315983, but said it also has a stamped number located on the outside machined surface of the wheel that reads 386665. I also talked to another guy who has test wheel casting number 315983 but his wheel has number 386246 stamped along the outside machined surface.
Seems the two test wheel have the same casting number, but different stamped numbers. I couldn' find test wheel number 315983 in any of my manuals (I have both a Clymer and a factory 1982 OMC manual), but both of them made reference to test wheels 386665 and 386246. Thanks again for any more help on this.

To add to the confusion a little...

Just found a test wheel that has casting number 320409 and a stamped number on the machined surface 70 386665?

OBJ...any ideas?
