I have a 1992 120hp Johnson outboard.
Do I need to remove a port or starbord bracket from my transom in order to remove the tilt and trim assembly. There seems to be room to remove it but I cant get the lower shaft out. I have already removed the upper shaft from the center hydralic ram but can not seem to drive the lower shaft out through the tilt and trim assembly. I removed both circlips and tried to drive the shaft out with a brass bar.It seemed so solid that I stoped till somebody could confirm that I am doing the right thing. Thanks Robbyusa@aol.com

you might try soaking it with some sort of penetrating lube for a day or two. ive got one on bracket assembly that is being pretty stubborn but im not in a hurry, so i spray and tap with hammer and punch, every so often. <salt water corrosion>.

I have not the same year as you.. but I've had the same problem...

It took a massive amount of force to get them out..

I soaked them in penitrene for weeks, I tried heat.. I tried minor force... no avail.

In the end.. I found a bar of similiar width.. and a sledgehammer.. and I bashed it in about an inch.. then I filled the inch deep hole with oil and bashed it back out again..

then in again. and it went though that time easily...

took me ages initialy due to trying all the gentle methods first...

Yours will probably be alot easier then mine was, it is after all more then ten years newer.

rgds

Frank
