I'm installing a omc tilt bracket onto a sterndrive boat and need opinions on the rule of thumb for the correct height.
Thanks

Re: omc tilt bracket

With the 6'' set back you can run it a bit higher than normal, I have a 16' bass type boat with a 50 and run my cav plate 1ish inches above the bottom of the boat.

With both the CMC and the engine holes you have alot of adjustment so shoot for the middle and play with it to find the ideal spot for your boat.

You don't say what engine you have but my 50 is fairly easy to move p or down and you don't have to take it completely off the boot to move.

I put mine on and kept moving it up till it cavitated and then dropped it 1 hole and it runs great, I still have to watch turns and trim down a bit or it will cavitate but in the straights it is great.

Are you converting a sterndrive to an outboard?

Its a 38" transom at its centerline
Where i would be putting th 15 honda kicker is to the left where the transom is 34"
Its a long shaft 20"
The cobra drive has the high point of the prop at 2" below the bottom of the boat.
Its a 19 1/2' aluminum hull with a 2.3 OMC cobra.

Mount the bracket as high as it will go, using the botom holes in the bracket. Then, you'll have another few inches to go down if you have to.

The top of my OMC bracket is 24" above the bottom of the boat and I use a short shaft. I wish I had a little more upward movement.

So, in proprtion your starting point will be 5" higher than mine.

Everythig is a compromise. When my motor is down its too deep in the water. When its up it still drags the prop at idle. 11" vertical travel isn't sufficient unless I could move the bracket up a few more inches..
