Re: OMC tilt clutch pack

I would just like to add; I have the clutch packs slipping and i have to keep hitting the switch to lower the case, and in reverse the stern comes up and wont stay down. I have diagnosed it to slipping clutch, have new oil 30W, nwe motor and good worm gear. Will the 'GREASE METHOD' help??

Or drill a hole through the pack and drive a pin through it :D Just don't hit bottom ever & it'll be fine.

(Note, not recommending this, but it does work)

Re: OMC tilt clutch pack

If you lock the entire clutch mechanism together, you remove any ability for the drive to "give" in the event you hit anything substantial. If you do hit something, the possibility for doing some serious damage to the tilt mechanism, intermediate housing, engine or stringers (in that order, roughly) is greatly increased.

I definitely recommend the washer method or a new clutch pack (if you can find/afford one). The tilt mechanism on the Stringer is (in my opinion) the absolute worst part of the entire Stringer system.

Ah yes, now i know what you mean, dont hit the bottom of the lake. I agree, i'll give the washer ago, it only slips mildly and has been serviced well. Thankyou.
