OMC to Merc swap. Help!!!

Hi all,
I have a 1979 sunrunner 210CV with a OMC 800 outdrive. I bought a 1978 galaxy with a merc outdrive as the donor boat for this project. I cannot find any info as to where to place the drive in the transom. I was able to find the "x" dimension for a alpha but not the older model. Is there anybody out there with the same boat with a merc outdrive that could give me some measurements? Or could somebody help me with the "x" dimension for the drive? When I am done with filling the hole in the transom it would be great to know that I'm cutting the hole in the right place. It would really suck to get that one wrong!!!!

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,... Use the Alpha X dimension as it's the same as the MC-1,...

This is for a newer model, but the information is the same as for a 79.

Thanks for the info. That's the same info I found but was unsure if the cutout was the same. Thanks for the clarification. One question I hope you can answer for me. The directions talk about moving the drive up or down for better performance in different boats. Not being much of the rocket scientist type myself, I was wondering if this is something that even needs to be taken into consideration. Any thoughts?

I have also found several of these projects being done, but they all peter out and never seem to be finished. Should I post pictures and details of this project along the way so somebody else might benefit? I realize most folks have the common sense to buy another boat. Some of us aren't learnt that good!

Yes it makes a difference, you can Possibly get away with 1/8" up or down from spec, I try to be closer than that. To redo the whole thing is a lot of work.
