I am in the process of converting the old Stringer mount OMC to a Meercruiser/Alpha1 drive. Can anyone direct or inform me on where to locate the specs with regards to engine mount heights, transom cutout and alignment?
I could build a jig based on some rough dimensions taken from a scrap vessel but would like to at least check this against known good measurements.
I will post the updates as this project progresses since I am sure many have attempted this in the past using different methods.

Thanks to new epoxy resins, advanced materials and the information gathered on the iboat forum, this project has become easier to undertake by a DIYer.

Sorry I can not help with the infomation you seek but since I also have a 1980 OMC Stringer Motor and love it I would sure like to here what troubles you run into and final cost. I have checked at the boat shows and been told would be Around $10,000 US. That included a New Motor and outdrive.

Re: OMC to Mercruiser

I've done one,+ am about to start another... what i do is cut the "plug" out of a donor boat...Make sure you cut it Bigger than you think you need...as long as you can reference the keel line, that gives you the "X" dimension... on the Hi-Liner we just did, we opened the "hole" out another 3" or 4" to find Good Wood... then went back with plywood,+ epoxy to get it filled in...Then opened the holes we needed with a drill, saw-zal, roto-zip, etc. using the donor fiberglass plug for guidiance....
for the motormounts we "Hung" the motor in place,+ built to it....

Boatist,
i'm using alot of ebay,+ scrounged parts... i "Could" make it run for maybe $1000. But this next boat is my Dreamboat..... it'll be going together as a fresh Alpha1,+ a fresh SBCmerc. power...... For Now......
