Why did you have the heads pulled if the cylinder walls are perfect? I would say it is fine to use a gallon of the walmart oil, it's not as good as the merc. oil but I think it's supposed to be a decent oil in itself. Why not use the OMC (Bombardier) oil? They just reformulated the XD-25 into XD-50 and improved it alot. Good luck.

i can only say get a good quality oil do not be cheap because you will pay later when you have to rebore the block.
i use Yamalube 2M and it runs great and compresion is good on my rebuild 110 evi 89.
cheap oil will burn not as clean and will leave a lot of carbon deposits and will eventualy stick your rings and do a lot of damage.

you diside what you put in your motor.
and i can only tell you my experience.
i'm not a mechanic but i will never put cheap oil in my motors annymore. I learned my lesson.

reeldutch

If you cylinder walls are perfect after 3 years of use why in the world would you want to screw it up by using non marine cheap stuff?

Hi, Johnny110.

If the oil you bought at Wal Mart is SuperTech, TCW-3 outboard oil it will be fine to use. If it is for air cooled 2 strokes DO NOT use it in an outboard.

Many people judge the quality of products by their price. The selling price is usually more a function of marketing dynamics than quality.

Good luck. :)

Thats a tough question. Millions of folks use that oil all the time -- I wouldnt.

If it were my motor I would go spend 10.00 for a gallon of good protection. One gallon used a little at a time may not hurt anything but......
