Re: omc v8 starting problem please help

ok so i bypassed the kill switch by just wraping the wires to gether....after starting the engine the dash lights and panel came on....dont know why cause with out it running the dash lights an panel shouild come on with it just in the on position.....but now the horn and blower isnt working....i checked fuse's there all
good. so i can only think that there is a short or something .....let me ask ..if the fuse is supossed to be lets say a 20a an i have just a 20.....or if its supossed to be a 10 an i put a 20....should it matter? i figuired that if its supossed to have a 20 the only issue would be it might pop....and if its supossed to be a 10...a 20 will work right?....and let me say agin how much i appreciate all your help cause right now my boat is running and stays runnin....so my issue's now are minor

Keep doing what Don tells you. But you might start cleaning contacts and check your dash ground wires. Check both sides of the fuse panel on each fuse for voltage, to determine if you have good contact.

I sure would like to return the favor somehow don,I'm not a boat specialist, but i am a painting specialist. so If you ever have any questions about what products to use or need any tips on any type of painting ,waterproofing, coating or staining don't hesitate to ask. If there is somewhere i can post about how helpful you have been or whatever i can do, let me know. also my wife is a bookkeeper/tax advisor so of you have any questions on how to file business, corporate, personal etc. just ask away

Do not put in a 20 for a 10 regarding fuses, ESPECIALLY if you suspect a problem. A higher amp fuse may let whatever problem there is cook longer and cause way more problems than the original glitch.

I bet your problem is ground related, sure fits the symptoms. When a fuse goes nothing in that circuit will work until the fuse is replaced (unless you are modifying or bypassing the circuitry).

Since about 99% of the boat manufacturers don't mark their fuses, you are pretty much left to finding out what each one goes to on your own. Then marking them.
Since you have so many things inop, I would bet you have a fuse or circuit breaker by the battery switch or battery that may supply power to the accessory fuse panel. Completely impossible to say for sure as all the boat manufacturers do it differently.
