I've had plugs that were boxed wrong already. That's another reason you always check them before installing.

Hi Todd. I may be in the same boat as you... Get it. ;-) I think my 1990 has a bad cylinder due to rings so I will let you know what it costs me to repair. Understand that I do all my own labor but these engines look pretty simple and when my service manual gets here I will get after it. I do have to agree though, most people who work on their own engines compare replacement parts side by side. There are many great parts people out their but they are hard to find because there are many many many many to the 100th power average to poor ones. You are your only reliable defense.

I can't speak for anybody else, but having been down this road with parts places for the last 25 years, I check as many parts side by side as possible. Spark plugs and oil filters are two that come to mind.

I must be missing something.
There is no way I'd go into an auto parts store and have them look up the "correct" spark plug for my any of outboard motors.
My owners' manuals specify the correct plugs....that's what I use.

Or, you can look up the correct recommended plugs from the original factory online parts website: epc.brp.com The local Evinrude dealer will then provide that plug or any correct superceded plug.
