Yes, oiling is variable, at least a little. I don't think the oiling ratio is nicely linear across the trottle range, but it's definitely leaner at idle.
I beleive OMC wouldn't have dared to call it VRO if it's not a little variable at least.

You should be able to smell it. If you run at or near WOT for a while and then quickly return to idle, it will take some time for the 1:50 mixture in the carbs to be consumed and be refilled with a leaner mixture.

BTW does anybody know where exactly the oil exitits the oil chamber and enters the fuel inlet chamber? Is there a special passage and a check valve? Or does the oil go through or around the oil piston? Maybe this helps to understand the mixing ratios.

Thank you to everyone who is offered explanations on how this system is supposed to work. After reading everyones explanations, and referred back to the pump operation, I learned a lot, and see that this system does vary somewhat, providing an average of about 60:1. this is a great system for someone who does a lot of idling.

Currently my boat is Not equipped with a system check gauge, or tach system check with the 4 led lights.
My motor is equipped with the 176349 wire harness for adapting 2000 150 Johnson to an older boat control box
With this harness will I still get all the audible alarms?
What kit do I use to up grade to the option of a 8 pin system check gauge? 176345 harness kit?

With gauge and upgrade kit, probably looking at $500 min.?

Or, should I just disconnect the OMS, and premix. I'm not doing a lot of idling or trolling?
If I was too run the OMS, I would definitely want to do have tach with alarm lights.

Any thoughts

You can probably get all the parts you need on eBay for not much money. It should all be plug and play.
