Buy a thick piece of chain..about 12' every time he gets out the fence chain him up right away and leave him there for about 2 days (obviously feed hium and such) then put him back in the fence. when he gets out again repeat. he will eventually toe the line as a learned behaviour. You are establishing a pavlovian reflex.

Or, everytime he gets out he will come back and sit by the chain calmly waiting to be attached the perils of classical conditioning

Re: ? on invisible dog fencing update

Well we tried everything we could to get the dog to stay home and all attempts failed. We even got a puppy and he played great with her. But he still had the need to roam. We tried to find a home in the country to no avail. everyone wants puppies. I couldn't just take him out and dump him like so many people out here do and I just couldn't bring myself to put a bullet in him. We had run out of options so my wife took him to the vet and had him put down. I really liked him too he was a great dog with the exception he liked to roam and in the city he would either get hit by a car or picked up and us fined. He got so he would growl at people he didn't know too. We had to lie to the kids and tell them we found him a new home. I will miss him.
Midnight rest in peace buddy you are where you can roam all you want and not get in trouble.
Oh man.

That is almost too hard to think about. I am sure you're hurting over it, and wish I knew what to say to make it better. You gave a piece of yourself---your heart---to your dog, and did what hurt you the most because you cared.

You'll be allright. Hang in there.

-dd-

I had a dog like that, I used a chain and he ran around the yard, he was very happy with that. I couldnt bring myself to kill the dog because he liked to go around the neighborhood.

Training dogs can be unpredictable, I know a man who was having trouble trying to housebreak his dog. He finally got frustrated when the dog crapped beside the kitchen table; he picked up the dog by the tail and threw him out an open window! The very next day the dog crapped in the exact same place then jumped through the window!

I dont understand why the underground fence didnt work unless the batteries in the collar were dead or weak. I'm sorry you had to have a healthy dog put down though.
