Everyone says that you see the craziest things at the ramp. Man is that true!
Saturday at Edgewater ramp proved to be quite interesting. This ramp is set up with four docks - so each slip can handle two boats - one on each side of the dock.
Here comes a Tundra with a 27-28' Bayliner Cuddy - double axle trailer. Big fiberglass boat, slowly backing down the other ramp behind us. I am pulling our boat off the trailer. And then there's a loud metal clap. I look behind me and this guys trailer snapped from the tongue and is being held on the incline - not by chain - but cable!
Now there are only two guys - the guest obviously knows nothing about boating... he's confused and has no idea how to help on the ramp. Both of them are standing next to the cables trying to figure out what their next move is. My husband comes back from parking and I ask him if we threw the chucks in our vehicle. The man replies that he can't use them - that he has been riding on a flat tire! So he gets in the truck and loads the boat in the water.
NO bumpers or dock lines are ready on this boat. I think they thought one guy could just stand there and hold it to the dock.
Meanwhile a family was tied up on the dock beside them. That captain was getting the engine going and his fam wanted to stand around and chat about how crazy this was. I told them to load quickly and get out before something else stupid could happen once that boat hit the water.
It was like Laurel and Hardy - but not as funny. We didn't hang around to see the rest. I am sure we'll read about them in the news one day.
