ok guys and gals. i got a 2 bank 4amp/4amp onboard battery charger. it is sealed and waterproof. i read from the website that i can hook both leads to 1 battery for charging 1 at a time? is this ok to do? first time i used it it got really hot but charged the battery. just dont want to screw nothing up.

this is what it says on website.

Q. Can I connect the charger to only one battery? What do I do with the unused leads or terminals?

A. If you are using a waterproof charger and want to charge 1 battery on a 2 bank charger, you will need to connect both leads on that one battery. If you are charging 1 or 2 batteries with a 3 bank charger, you will need to connect all the leads on the 1 or 2 batteries. At no time should the charger be run without all the leads being connected to a battery(s).

just want to make sure it will work out ok with no harm since it got very hot. i havent tried it with 2 batteries yet.

Thanks

Re: onboard battery charger 2 bank 1 battery?

Every battery charger I have installed the instructions I had required me to wire each battery bank to a single line. Any unused lines were were left unwired. At one time I came across a 3 bank system with only 2 banks being used. After several years of use one bank quit working. I wired the batteries to the bank not used and they went on my merry way. Hope you find this setup works for you. There are many battery experts here that may give you a more difinative answer.

We use ProMariner chargers, if there is an extra set of leads, we simply tie them back.

What brand and model is your charger?

yep its promarine just like you got. manual says to NEVER use the charger unless all leads are hooked. it will burn up your battery i think?

Do you have a ProMariner ProMite? I looked in the manual, and it says to attach the leads for the second batt to the first batt if you're only charging one batt.

Guess that's different than their larger chargers...

We actually now recommend that the extra set of leads be connected to a battery in use. This will not double charge or overcharge it just needs to see a battery to properly charge.
