Onboard charger and battery switch

I have a Guest battery switch with a cranking battery attached to #1 and a deep cycle battery attached to position #2. The batteries share a common ground cable. Will the common ground be a problem if I install a 2 bank onboard "smart" charger to keep batteries up during absence?

I dont believe so, I believe that the smart part of the charger is in the positive circuit.

You can get a 2 bank charger that uses a common ground. But even with seperate grounds coming from the charger should be no problem.

Why not mount a solar charger?
