Re: One Happy Island (more pics)
18rabid,

The hotel district where we were was experiencing growth, as the hotel next door to us was being demolished and rebuilt. I also saw where a few others were in the process of being built.

When we were shopping downtown, I noticed a few resorts that were closed and pretty run down. We ate dinner one evening a few blocks off the main drag, and to be honest, I was glad we were in a group of couples. Never saw anything except a few winos or maybe crackheads in one of the alleys, and at no time did I feel threatened or scared. Every islander I came in contact with was as friendly and warm as they could be...sure they want your tourist money, but they also want you to come back.

I only heard one "crack" (which was pretty much tasteless imho) from a taxi driver the night we were downtown. He said to call him if we found the "missing girl" so he could split the reward with us. --jerk--

I was surpised to see Wendy's, Taco Bell, Hooters and True Value Hardware stores. For some reason they looked very out of place.

They also had the familiar orange barrels on some of the roads, so there was improvements to the infastructure being made.

Man, I almost started looking for civil engeneers in the phone book to see if they had any openings for technicians.
