This is exactly why all boats should be required to have a kill switch on the outside of the hull.

Re: One lucky child

i think i'm with jb on this one. it was 'lucky' for the kid. it was negligent for the parents. there are all sorts of things we can fail to be aware of, failing to be aware of those that can kill or maim does not alleviate responsibility.

darwin never sleeps. this couple could just as easily have taken themselves and their offspring out of the pool, save for chance.

"Raising our awareness may not eliminate mental lapses but it is a good reminder that continuing education and a recognition of the importance of maintaining focus contribute to a safer more rewarding experience."

When I test drove my used Stratos, I noticed the Salesman (behind the helm) strapped the kill switch around his leg. Neat idea I thought. So that's what I do everytime behind the wheel. It's unabtrusive and easy to unhook.

Loved this idea so while up north this weekend I did same on every trip out.
Got back to camp and went to unhook safety lanyard and the "safety end" had been pulled out but the motor was still running!!?!!? What the heck????
Will be checking into this ASAP.
