Just got my intake gaskets done on my truck .

I sold my 115hp v4 (strong beast!!)
Put a 1975 70 Hp Johnson on the boat didint care for it .

I had this 1976 55-hp Evinrude 2cyl 20" Electric Choke 150 PSI on Both Cylinders .

Heres the deal ...

It will IDLE all day in the water and will troll all-day with out missing a beat ... i try to go WOT its starts to take off and its almost like the secondaries on a 4 barell carb wont open .. Again its carbs are SPOTLESS new kits and new fuel pump and plugs from Iboats . i didint mess with the high speed and low speed i just blasted with with some are and solvent the bowls were like new ..

I did find the number 1 coil had a crack so i replaced it with the 70hp one. (They are identical ) still didint fix it .

So heres what i think the problem is im useing a glass 3-inch long fuel filter with the mesh screen like you would find at any Advance/AutoZone Parts shop .... Well i noticed it wasint all the way full with fuel like it would have maybe a 1/4 of fuel in it ... and the fitting was sucking air u guess and maybe when the high speed opens up it would run the bowls low enough that it wouldint run WoT ... Well i removed the OMC fitting on the end of the line and instaled a 3/8's air line fitting and now the filter stays full on the Muffs ....

Do you guys think this would have caused the problem . Im just wondering what you guys think about this . I did pump the ball when it was running empty and it was soft now it says rock hard.

I did adjust the floats also when i did the carbs to Joe Reeves info ...

I dont think its carb related i sure hope not lol .

2d' Problem ...

New Shift cables From Iboats well she will not go into reverse so i adusted the cable then the same thing !! LOL!

Removed the cable and tryed to put in reverse while its running .... nothing its click click click like the shaft is bouncing off a gear so i didint try that any more .

I also hear theres an adjustment if i drop the lower unit again . If i remember correctly i did mess with that rod so im sure since i turned it a few times thats it but i also hear it would be a clutch dog .

Thanks Rob ..

Hope all you guys had a good day and ran your rigs ..
I was all ready had the American Flag out on the stern and everything!!!

The boat is a 1966 16ft MFG Beachcomber and still moves on down the river with the best of them when that 115 was on there but was way to much power on that boat (50+mph ) and i knew it would hurt the transom.

*************** UPDATE GUYS ******************

Well i guess im 100% at falut for no reverse ... When i changed the water pump i remember the shift shaft kept spinning while i installed the lower unit and i screwed it all the way in ... Im 100% sure thats the problem.

Just went down to the shop looks like the lower unit gear oil is milky so im going to flush it out with some diesel and replace all the lower unit seals and pressure test it .

I just hope that the fuel filter was the problem for the motor not running up top at all for more then 1 second . Now the fuel primer and stays rock hard and the fuel filter stays 100% FULL NO AIR AT ALL!

Air infiltration into the fuel line will kill wot quick! With a solid primer bulb you should be in good shape.
