One outboard motor wired to two batteries

The sailboat has two batteries that run through a master switch which can select either battery 1, battery 2 or both to connect with the lights, etc. Can the outboard motor be wired to both batteries at the same time so they both charge when the motor is running without destroying the master switch seperation? ie if the motor is off will the two batteries still be connected together?

if the switch is on "both" they are wired together.
