Re: one person unloading of boat

Sorry for your loss. We lost my Grandma and Grandpa last year to cancer. My fishing buddy is gone now too.

I launch my boat at my pace all the time. Typically someone is with me, but not always. I have the boat prepped prior to backing into the water, so I back it in, then crawl around bumper to undo the front strap, then un-hook it and get up on dock and tie a rope off front and back. If the boat wasn't run before launching, I start the boat at this time and put it on a higher/warm up idle. I then drive the truck/trailer to the parking spot and walk/jog back. Total time is about 5-7 minutes even if I'm by myself. Its not that big of a deal.

Take your time and do it right. If people get mad with you, I'd just brush it off and continue on your way doing what you need to do. Its a public launch, your free to use it at your own will!

Get out on the water and enjoy it! In my honest opinion, who cares if it takes you 10 minutes total, as long as your 'working' at it and not carrying things back from your truck/boat etc...It will go just fine.

The guy in line at the ramp directly behind you has a vested interest in you getting in the water quickly and efficiently. If you explain that with his help he could get in the water more quickly, I'm sure he'd be happy to oblige. Most people don't launch alone, so either he or one of his crew could most likely assist you. Offer a 'quid pro quo'. If he's willing to help you, you'd be willing to help him.

Just a thought.

I say just practice and do it yourself. That way if something should go wroing you have nobody to blame but yourself. Now having somebody take a line at the dock of something like that sure, but for the most part I like doing it all myself. Part of it is feeling of accomplishment, but mainly it's just I now have a method and it works. One guy yelled at his teenage boys to come over and give me a hand one time and I said "Thanks for offering, but I'm fine and I kind of enjoy doing it myself".

Here's another thought. I assume that you don't have children of your own yet, so find a neighborhood kid and make him your new fishing buddy. He can help hold the rope and tie off to the dock while you park the truck. He will love to hear stories about how you and your dad went fishing. He will remember these trips forever, just like you do.

Maybe it's alot easier with a roller trailer for me. I have a 21' V20. I back the trailer so the stern is in the water deep enough to easily drop the engine down. I lock up the E brake, take the keys, unhook the winch, then climb up over the bow railing and start the boat and gently power the boat off. I tie it to the dock, run back arou8nd to the truck and park it. Back to boat and leave. 5 minutes, maybe 8 tops before I'm on my way.
