A guy seen at the boat dock that locked his keys in his running truck while backed down the launch ramp thought he was clever in prying open his rear sliding window...until he realized that the window opening was only 1' wide and his a** was 2' wide.

...not so good when the (very young) spare child is also locked in and not capable of unlocking the vehicle... I've seen this happen too.

All my kids know how to push the power door lock buttons. 4 kids Ages 2 to 8
Even in retal cars and vans.
Lights, horn and putting Canadian Loonies and quartes in the cd player are my 2 year old's claim to fame at the moment.

Man I taught them well, EH!?

My Aunt and Uncle had locked their keys in their trailer once and I (Age 6) was just small enough to get through the vent in the celling nad open it up.

My brothers oldest child at the age of 18 months took all of my dads business cards and inserted them into my dads 5 1/4" floppy drive on his computer. That took a lot of patients and time for a kid that young.

Craig

The truck had to be a Nissan. I locked myself out the second day I Owned my 2001 Frontier. Just remember if you put a key under the truck make sure it is forward far enough so you don't have to snorkle underneath by the spare to get the key off the frame. Some experiences are best forgotten.

Sounds like a good reason to buy a new Suburban. I just bought a 2002 Suburban and if you lock the doors with the keys in the ignition, the drivers door unlocks itself!!! Pretty cool trick, my only concerns now is, How long will it take for me to find a way around this neat safety feature VBG

I keep a spare door key to both my vehicles in my wallet. I have used them several times.

My ex mother-in-law was forever locking herself out at the mall etc. On one occassion I showed up with a clothes hanger and opened her door...she replied "that's a great idea..I'm going to put one in the trunk when I get home!"

I just have to ask this.

Capt Bob do you carry your wallet in your pocket when you launch or do you glovebox it? I tend to stuff mine in the boat glovebox so when ;) (notice I did not say if) I fall in or have to go into the water I don't have to think about it.

Bob

I always put my wallet, watch etc. in the boat before I launch. Seems like I always get wetter than I plan to. :)

Great point Capt. Bob. My wife learned that one the hard way. She tryed to show some grace getting into the tube for the first time to show the 3 out of 4 kids that this was FUN and she could stay dry.

BOTTOMS UP.

I still get that LOOK when I tell this stroy but my 2nd oldest daughter and I still love the tube.
Keep wallets in the glove box or in the first aid kit that floats.

And yes my wife does go faster this year when towing us, hhhmmmmmmm. LOL.

Re: One reason to not lock your keys in your truck

I always lock the wallet in the truck, and keep enough $$ for a tank of gas in the dry bag in the boat.
I also have a spring clip (beaner) on my keys and clip them the the loop on the back of my life jacket. That way if ever the rig sinks, I know my keys will make it to the top and I'll get home.

I backed down the ramp and locked the keys in my truck while the trailer was still in the water. Got the door open with a coathanger. Did some other stupid things on this trip. And no I wasn't drunk. I now keep an extra truck key in the rod compartment.

You folks do realize you are telling lots of unknown people where you keep the keys to your truck at right?

As an example pj says where he keeps his keys. He also lists his occupation and in which town which makes it real easy to find his name. Phone book or google will tell me his address. I now have keys to his truck.

I would advise to not give quite as much of this info out. There have been about 10 race cars stole in the Dallas area in the last year or so. Its things like this that make it easy to do so.

I may be paranoid but as a peace officer I see this type of stuff happen. I'm giving out my real name and where I live, i know, it goes against my advice, but I ain't telling you where I hide my keys either ;)

Re: One reason to not lock your keys in your truck

Was out coon hunt'n bout 10 years ago. walked in to get the dogs off a tree. got back out keys laying in seat with door locked. We were about 10 miles to nearest house. slept on the tailgate that night. Would not have been so bad but ran out of beer about 1 hour into the ordeal.

After that have one key in wallet and one somewhere on the vehicle.(Always) never have been locked out since. same goes for house key. same goes for boat keys, put one in tackle box or wired somewhere in boat.

Saltwater fishing licence requires you to carry your ID - thus wallet in the boat, packed with the snacks and cellphone.
