I had a good one today. Watching a fella pull his boat for the winter everything was proper. Safety chains, transom straps ect. and away he go's inc. his mooring cover. I got a feeling and boy I was right following him he gets up to speed well the first thing the cover starts to look like a balloon just as I start to blow my horn Boom the thing unsnaps and takes off. Now for the good part I recover the cover and this has no clue it's even gone. Now he's looking at me like I'm an idiot as I'm along side beeping well that was until my wife grabs the cover sticks it out the window and yells " you lose something" needless to say he was very embarrassed but grateful

I have seen the same thing on the PA turn pike but the result wasn't the same poor fella was towing a small tin and when the cover let loos on the bow it acted like a sail and guess what!!!!!!!! no transom straps so up up and away I think it slid on the road a good 200' gear everywhere. That why I never tow with cover.

unless you really drop the big bucks for a real one, most towing covers aren't.

I'm not the most experienced or sharpest tool in this here shed but I do know that since day one of buying my boat I thought it was never a good idea to tow my boat with the cover on. Kind of one of those things that if you know nothing about just doesn't sound like a good idea. Just a thought.

I bought an fairly expensive cover that's intended for towing. I'm nervous about a cushion or something else flying out on the freeway. I like to load the boat before we go to the lake so there's less time getting it ready in the staging area. When I get to the lake, I just pop the cover off, spend a couple of minutes getting it ready, and I'm in the water. All my crap, like chairs, coolers, toys, tube,... are already in the boat ready to go.

I have a nice towable cover. They do have an use if you like to just jump in the boat witout much prep. Keeps all the stuff in the boat where it belongs. I don't trail with it anymore. I worked my system down to the point that I don't have to worry about things flying. Plus I never liked the way they looked.

I have a thin cover I throw on the boat if I'm going to tow through bad weather. When I get on the other side of the weather I can take the cover off and the boats all dried out and ready to go. It's handy to throw over the boat loose in camp to keep the dew off for the same reason.

For the road, it has about eleventy seven straps on it.

I have custom snap on mooring covers and I always peel them off in the driveway before heading out. One less thing to fuss with at the ramp.
