Is there an index for the different engine and outdrive manuals that are online at boatfix? I browsed all over that site and couldn't find even a reference to them.

I almost think that the access to the manual is actually for their members since there IS no public index. They do not seem to prevent anyone from using them though

While looking at Service Manual 6, as an example, all you can see is the cover page and index (7 pages total). If you are a member to boatfix, are you allowed to view an entire service manual online?

Yea, I looked all over and couldn't find it. Even started backing out /xx/ from the URLs but that didn't help.

Thanks HT and Bondo

What are you looking for exactly? There are probably only 5 or 6 of the links on the main menu page that even work. There is no index online that I am aware of, and without boatfix, there wouldn't be those few manuals.

Re: Online Engine and Outdrive Manuals

Actually, I was looking to be able to find anything that is available there. I have hardcopies of my original Merc manuals with chitty bindings for my current boat. (My engine manual now breaks down into 5 separate pieces.) For $50, the binding should be a little better. Anyways, if I'm not at home I obviously can't see them. In addition, I like to look up other things for motors/drives that are in different manuals. (Some of us don't work on everything every day and can't memorize it like Don can.)

First of all, let me say one thing. I do NOT memorize all that stuff. I try to remember things that helps me find problems. Specs are looked up in the manual EVERY time I need them. Even if it's the dwell on an old Merc or Volvo chevy V8 With points. While I know it's 28 to 32 degrees, I look it up to make sure something hasn't changed.
It takes a couple of minutes extra, but you then have other info. Idle speeds, timing, advance, for tuneups. Torque, specs, tolerances for rebuilds.
Not sure how these guys "Rebuild" an engine without a manual. How do they know is things are in spec or not.
When I worked at a Merc and Volvo dealer (I don't any longer) it was common practice to run the SN of the engine and drive and check for any new Service bulletins. Even the older ones.
Lots of things dealers can do that a DIYer can't, as far as information available.

LOL. We know that. It just seems that way with the amount of exact info you throw around here.

Regarding the rest of your post, that's exactly the reason I was looking for an index for the manuals available online. :)

Re: Online Engine and Outdrive Manuals

CJ,

Click on the cover page itself and it opens upthe manual index. Then click on what you want to see and it will open up the specific section. the whole manual is there.

Thanks for the link by the way.
