Any of you guys know of any sites or people that have diagrams (engine & drive train) or shop manuals available to look at online. I found a nice one that a guy has, its a complete Merc shop manual scanned into PDF and available for download on this guys site, only problem is its for a 1982 model boat/engine.

Ahoy, Navyguy.

It is also probably copyrighted material and illegal as heck.

Your best bet is to find out what is available and buy it.

Good luck. :)

True.....but I thought I would ask anyway, there seems to be info out there for everything, you just have to ask around till you find it. And yes I am waiting for my manula to arrive in the mail (Ebay) I was just looking for something to help me out this weekend while I have some time to work on it.

Re: Online Tech info.

sorry it took a while for this post but I am on watch right now (base OOD) and it got kinda busy for a second. I am headed to P-3 as either a pilot or a PR, don't know yet as I have an O package pending. I love it here in the keys, its truly mchale's navy here. Outta work every day by 1300, long weekends, time off whenever you need it......man I am going to cry like a baby when I have to leave. Thanks for the sites guys, I will check those out. Oh yea, the part about missing the navy days, I got out for a year and a half, and I missed it so I am back at it again.

NavyGuy:

Here's one that's both helpful and legal. It's mostly Mercruiser materials but the parts explosion diagrams and schematics are great...plus you can determine prices and order parts.

http://www.mercruiserparts.com/

And...JB's right, we should be mindful of copyright infringement, etc. Few of us boaters support piracy...

that's the site I was looking for, i knew i had run accross a site that showed me and exploded diagram that was for the purpose of identifying parts to order, but that diagram will help a great deal with my project this afternoon.......and a note on the piracy thing, you'll see that I am waiting on my shop manual i bought to arrive in the mail, in the meantime, I was looking for the diagrams which you led me to......thanks!!!!!

Re: Online Tech info.

I just read a disturbing tech tip on one of the sites mentioned above.
it suggests that you can simulate prop load by grabbing the propshaft with a gloved hand !
I hope everyone disregards this kind of tech tip because we all know that this "simulation" could easily rip your arm off like nobodys business !
sorry for that graphic but it is the truth !
the problem in question here could be easily diagnosed by a qualified mechanic for less than $50.00
many things can be done by D I Y but please watch out for dangerous information like this on internet sites, with so many possible causes, shifting problem diagnosis is best left to a pro.
then a true pro will guide you through the repair procedure if you want to tackle it yourself !
have fun but please be careful ! thanks
