Sort of an update and a big old question, why is this forum the only one I am having issues with, almost like it will not give me "cookies???"
I'm here , but not here??

Yesterday it became apparent that the loading of "some" web sites was very very slow!
Restarted the puter after cleaning out the temp files, restarted the DSL modem.
It just seems to be certain sites e-bay, iboats, craigslist.

Any ideas??

(and what the H#$$ is up with google trying to out think me, I type in what I want and it omits half the charectors and sends me to some weird site GRRRRRR
I now have to type slowly and back track to fix its mistakes)

Switch your search service to Bing and then go to google manually when you need a real search engine. Yesterday's internet slowdown was because AT&T failed over to the old May West backbone for several hours while upgrading. You might not know this but everything eventualy hits old AT&T copper lines at some point no matter who is providing your service.

rbh...Google's "out-thinking" you is a "helpful feature". It's called "Google Instant", and it can be turned off by clicking on Options, selecting Search Settings and then locating the Google Instant option and selecting "Don't Use...".

The Options button is not well marked; it's the little symbol in the upper right that looks like a gear. Click on it and it will open up a whole new world of options for ya.

Very respectfully,

Steve

Re: Slow to load web sites

iboats is painfully slow for me too. To the point that I have to have another page open to read while I wait the the iboats link I clicked on to load. What's weird is that it loads fine on my iPhone, but both laptops are S-L-O-W. iboats is the only one for me, though.

Nothing wrong with I boats down here in south florida. Just use Firefox and Google. Things should load up quite fast for ya.....If you're still having probs, message me.... I'm sure it's not iboats.

Very respectfully,

Steve

Re: Slow to load web sites

At my office I have end of the run 50 year old wires for my DSL service. iboats loads slow, 30 to 45 seconds per page. It seems to be the only site I visit that has this issue. Time delay started happening about 2 months ago.

At home I have cable service and run a laptop, and there is no time delay issue.

I guess someone is telling not to look at iboats while I'm at work:eek:

I'm running Safari most of the time on a cable connection - no real problems. I have run into some slow loads on wireless networks though.

Run Firefox.This site doesn't play well with IE 5 & 6 & 7 & 8 or 9.

When we went thru the upgrade I had NO problems what so ever. :)

Re: Slow to load web sites

Anyone here use the ap's like Spy Bot ? I run Firefox, Norton System Works (and defrag with it) and AVG. I'm not having any problems here with slow load.

Major Geeks has a bunch of free ap's to get rid of spy ware, skumware, and the like.

www.majorgeeks.com

Some of those spy wares are embedded deep and you can't get rid of them by just deleting cookies and defragging.

Dee, Its not wise to run 2 antivirus programs . .

Get rid of AVG and let Norton's do it's job alone. :)

Re: Slow to load web sites

LoL, I didn't load the Norton Anti Virus off the Systems Works disk. The Spy Bot I don't run in the background. So I can use it occasionally to clean out the deeply embedded stuff.

But you're quite right....two anti viruses going at once would be too much fun. (especially if one of them were Avast....cause it all but hi jacks your computer anyways)

Critters? I have a dual boot system and I haven't seen any on Linux yet but I've caught a few on the MS Vista side.
