Oooops!!

got my first I/O latley 89 2.3L OMC. Cleaned it up, changed all the oils, engine, stern drive(sorta). This is where the BIG opps comes in. Didn't know it was any different than an out board. Drained the leg through the lower hole, then filled through the same hole till oil came out the upper hole (in the leg) took it for a ride. Didn't make it far. took out the top gear set. Got a new set with bearing and seal. going to change them out. Is there any other damage that I should look for. Will I have to take the lower section apart also.

yep you gotta take the lower apart too, mainly to clean and inspect everything. the tiny metal shavings that came off the upper more than likely got into the gear lube in the lower and infiltrated the bearings.

filling omc cobra - fill lower til comes out middle vent, then fill from middle vent to upper dipstick in top cap
