Operating a 140 Johnson without thermostats

Due to some overheating recently, I decided to remove the stats. Also the seal under the starboard stat became undone with the stainless steel part still in the head. I have a couple of fishing days remaining before I winterize the motor. Can I run the motor for the few fishing trips remaining? I may run the boat for a total of six hours then I'm finished. I know operating the motor without stats is not recommended.

I doubt that you could cause any serious damage without them short term. Your motor may not run up to par, due to the engine never reaching proper operating temp. But as they say, put them in asap!

Which 140 is it? My 1994 120 Looper(same design as the 140) has a water cooled rectifier and without t-stats the water level doesn't get up there to cool it.
