Opinion needed: stalling issue

So I took my boat to the mechanic and told them it has been sitting for the last two years. I told them do what they need to do to get it running. They gave it a tune up and cleaned the carb. They said they did a lake test run. I get it back and all this sounds awesome.

I take it to the lake and fire it up, it started just fine. I then go to put it in gear and it stalls. I eventually get it going. Everytime I go to accelerate though it stalls. Once I get the rpm to jump up a little I can put the throttle down. It is just getting the rpm to jump up a little without stalling that is the problem.

Now I'm getting ready to go on vacation Saturday and the boat is back at the mechanic. I am thinking about getting my boat and seeing if I can get it running so I can take it with me.
My thinking is it sounds like bad gas. Would you guys agree? Should I just siphon the old stuff out and put new gas in it? Then test it out?

It's getting a bit irritating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt

Kind of hard to say what's wrong without even knowing what engine you have.

if you have a water separating fuel filter, pull the filter and empty the contents into a clear container and see if there is water in it, and if there is, how much. DO NOT reuse the filter after doing this.

Thanks Don! I'll check it out. My engine is a mercruiser 470. Does bad gas usually exhibit this type of problem?
