Looking at purchasing a 55 hp mariner, two smoker. Looking to get some feedback, see if they have a weak history or common problems.

Any points to look at when I go check it out?

thanks Chris

This is a Merc forum, everyone here has motor problems. With a Merc your best tool will be your checkbook. Ever been stranded in 6-10ft seas, in the dark, lightening all around? Passengers hurling, not good.

Orbit... just because you had a failure which happens to ALL BRANDS, there is no need of you posting BS. If you want to help the poster all said and good but if your going to bash and BS and offer no advice, pop a clutch and GTFW !!!

If it is a 98 model its a good engine,3 cylinder and needs to be propped toward upper end of rpm.

As you can see Fatztard has all the answers. Have a friend follow you out and pull the plug on that motor. Deep 6. Over and out.
