First off, this site is fantastic and I have learned a lot by reading the posts!
Anyway, I was looking for re-assurance about my new purchase. I have a 1982 14 ft Lowe alluminum v fishing boat with a 25 max HP rating. I got this boat with a 20 hp 2 Stroke Merc that basically won't run without a complete overhaul and new everything so I purchased the Nissan 18 because I didn't want to mix gas. I realized that the 4 strokes are quite a bit heavier so to compensate for weight without giving up too much horspower I went with the 18. I got the new motor today and there is a big difference in size and I would say 25 pound difference in weight. Is this motor gonna be ok? I am currently replacing the transom as well. Thanks for your input!

A lot of 2-stroke 25's weigh more than that 18, so.......If the transom is in good shape I can't think of any reason to be worried.

Thanks Guru! I appreciate your help. Since I am redoing the transom I think I am good to go. I guess when I looked at the new motor versus the old motor, I got a little scared that the boat couldn't handle that extra weight. I researched the Tohatsu/Nissan motors for a long time and was very impressed in what I read. Thanks again!
