"You're gonna need a bigger boat!":p

Welcome to iboats!

The ad says one cylinder has lower compression. Not necessarily a deal breaker, but you're right to be concerned. The lost title issue is one that you'll have to check with PennDOT as to how much of a hassle it would be.

Re: opinion on tiny boat purchase

possibly useless motor.

no title for trailer.

Its not an Alumacraft.

Its a Starcraft, or Sylvan, or Smokercraft, or Blue Fin, all of which used that hull out of the same factory.

So, there could be title or registration issues if the boat title actually says Alumacraft.

Looks to be in pretty good shape for a 77. Someone must have done a restore on it or really looked after it...but looks can be deceiving.

Doesn't hurt to throw in a low ball order and see what comes of it assuming the paper come can be sorted out ahead of time.

It says the trailer is registered so they should be able to just go to the DMV and get a replacement title if they are the registered owner. I would at least insist they do that ahead of time so you don't have any hassle when putting it in your name.

A powerhead for a motor or a rebuild is in order but............. you need specifics on that motor. Priced almost high but very high for a bad motor.

Best advice is to GET ON THE ROAD and examine it in person. Define what is one low cylinder on a V-4 is it 20 lbs low or is it 100 lbs lower.

Buyer beware

I will not be using the motor or trailer. He will not just sell the hull, so I will need to sell off the motor/trailer after the purchase. I have been looking for a decent 21' or 22' starcraft cc for awile, so I really want to jump on this. I'm just trying to get a good price point to shoot for so my head knows where to shoot for to when the boat buying bug sinks his teen into my brain and I forget how to be logical.

I wouldn't deal with an out of state boat with title issues. Now if it was a PA boat, I'd say go for it because PA Fish and Game is great to deal with. If a boat has PA numbers on it, they'll just send a letter to the last registered owner and issue you temp tags in the meantime. But out of state, wouldn't mess with it. Not a good price anyway. Maybe $1500.

looks to me like it has a transom issue. maybe, maybe not. being a 77 i'd say yeah it's gonna take some work. what the heck is the center console made of? it looks like formica but maybe that's just the picture. boat only? $2500 is way too much. the trailer can be registered as home made. motor needs rebuild. lot's of unknowns.

Re: opinion on tinny boat purchase

could be true, but then again a used trailer for a 17' can be had for about $300? maybe a little more? besides, the OP doesn't want the trailer so he could just sell it as scrap. dunno.

well, time to let this one go. I was kinda blinded with the hope of getting back on the water this spring. That is just way to much to spend for that package. The search continues. oh well. Thanks for the input.

oh, why is when I was looking for an 18, all I seemed to find was the 16's. now i'm looking for a 21' or 22', and I keep finding the 18's. driving me nuts.
