Re: Opinion

In your case the benefit is you and everyone else within earshot gets to hear 400 ponies running strong.
I have really loud free flowing exhaust on my car, at times it can get annoying. Its mostly quiet in the cab as it is on a boat, all the exhaust is blowing out the back so you dont hear "as much" folks behind you really get bombed tho.

I live on lake Michigan and can hear cigarette boats coming longgggg before I see them and I think I can see for miles and miles and miles ?

Someone with a clue as to why thru hull is good should be along shortly, my best guess is that it is just an integral part of the performance boat package.
Check out this old wood boat, probably a late 40's thru hull exhaust and 894 cubes with a braindead operator.

Tools, You might ask the question in the I/O forum. A stock 454 with thru the outdrive has 330HP. You might see if there is a HP advantage for the thru hulls. You might also check for marine mufflers or some other way to make it quiet if it annoys you. Looks like you have stainless risers on standard cast iron manifolds.

I think the thru hull exhaust gives you a few advantages.

It will help the motor breath better...so it will have a slight power advantage if the exhaust is design properly.

In your case another big advantage is that your outdrive should run cooler. With through the prop exhaust that hot exhaust and the engine cooling water is running through the outdrive and adding even more heat to the gear train. That Alpha will need to be kept as cool as possible to make it last.

Re: Opinion

I added thru hull captain's call on my boat. The dealer/ mechanic advised there really is no performance advantage, maybe +1 or 2 mph. Mine is a Corsa system that exits on the sides of my boat. My wife was like whats the point. This was my dream boat, the one I keep till we retire, so she gave in.

On the shake down cruise with the dealer, he started it up at the ramp. I was like, sounds good, not realizing it wasn't switched on! He hit the switch and dam I was in heaven. I looked at my wife, and she had a BIG smile. She was glad we got it.

The captain's call is nice. I keep it off in the marina and switch it on when we enter the river.

Personal preference. My friend has a C5 corvette which is very quiet. I have a GTO and added a Spin Tech cat back. I love the sound of a V-8.

Re: Opinion

Tabes: Great looking boat and I bet all those V8's sounds pretty sweet the LS small blocks are really sweet engines.
And corsa boat exhaust ? Wow I bet that's $$$. My brother in low has a Corsa catback on his built WS6 and I think it was like $1200. Nice products tho, happy with my $500 Magnaflow.......

I'll agree with everyone! It will really help cool your Alpha 1, and a speed improvement over say 275HP. Most gearheads (me included) consider the sound of an opened up V8 music to our ears. I even like to hear boats drive by me opened up. The music never bothers me! As soon as its prudent, I'll be putting a system on mine. I put them on my last boat, a 17' 4 Winns. The whole family was pleased. I'm lucky I have a gearhead wife as well! CONGRATS!

Windsors03cobra I love the yellow Cobra you have!! I wanted black cobra when I was looking. Awesome cars!! I couldnt pass up the deal I made on my GTO. It was brand new in a Michigan show room, I flew out and dealer had their porter p/u at airport. I dealt with the dealer for 2.5 months via email. Sticker was 34,300 I got on 12/28/06 for 19500 after 3000(GM card rebate) and 1000(conquest rebate). Plus dealer did a Mobil one syn oil change for me, filled tank and bought me a steak lunch while I waited for paper work.

BEST car buy experience hands down. Plus GTO has lot of room for the two car seats we were using at the time.

I almost went Magnaflow, Spin tech was little louder.

Re: Opinion

Sometimes I also like the sound of the thru exhaust, but I still think they are for very wide open waters only. Out on lake Ontario here, make all the noise you want! however, for MANY of the thru-hull folks, they are out for attention and stay close to shore so they can show-off for everyone else. Most of those listenting are annoyed, not impressed.

Captains call, only open when off shore is a great option.
