Well, I splashed the boat the other day & it didn't overheat but was running a bit warm. But now I have another issue. I'm getting the dreaded "bump" from the drive. It's a 3.0 Cobra so we all know what that might mean. Bad shift dogs. I haven't had time to tear it down to look, but I did visit a local shop that specializes in Cobra repairs. He quoted me a price of about $1400 to replace the gearset & that includes labor. I don't have the proper tools to shim it correctly so I have to farm it out. Should I have the Cobra repaired for 1400 or go with an SEI conversion? The SEI will run me about $1800, & that doesn't include a new shifter if I might need one plus a new prop. I want to sell the boat & I'm afraid that if I sink 1400 into the Cobra I still may have a hard time selling it because it's an OMC & knowlegeble buyers won't want it even with a new gearset. The boat is an '87 in good shape but does need some cosmetic work on the interior & the trailer. I'll take care of that. I'd like to at least break even no matter what I do. Boat is a Starcraft Medalist, 19 ft. with an open bow. What do u guys think?
