If you are not die hard fishing stock, look for something else.

Center Consols are for fishing. They are designed for fishing and not much else. If you fish, you can't do better than a center console.

If you have a family that does not fish, they will be very unhappy with your center console.

Re: opinions needed

There are many factors to consider: age of operator, boat size, climate, inland or saltwater, number of passengers, open water or protected, skiing and other watersports, type of fishing, etc.

So tell us more ...
Kelly Cook

Re: opinions needed

well, i'm 56yrs. old with two grandkids. i fish Lake Erie. the boat i'm lookin' at is a 17' Egdewater cc. generally all i do is fish, but i think it would also be fun to tow the grandkids on a tube. there is usually only two when we fish. i know bigger is always better especially on big water, but i want something that will fit in my garage. i don't go out unless its 2' or less water (learned my lesson about 30 yrs. ago)
i fished for the last 20 yrs. out of a 14' Lund with a 25hp yamaha. just would like something a little bigger, something easy to trailer and put in and out. i figure on having this boat til-----the end.

Woahhh guys - Back up the truck here!!

I have a 23' center console and it is the best, most flexible boat that I have had in 35 years. And - a BIG AND - I don't fish. When sirloin steaks have gills and fins then maybe I'll think about fishing.

A center console has more room inside than any boat I know of for open water running. I have a Bimini top so we have shade when needed and can fold it completely out of way when not. We also have a dodger (or dog house ((canvas cover in front)) for getting out of the rain or sleeping overnight.

Ok, that does give us a clearer picture machicj. For a 17 footer for open water I would say a CC is about ideal. And Edgewater is certainly a nice brand. The only issue I can see is for tubing and other watersports. With a CC it's hard to come up with a comfortable situation for the observer (assuming you want an observer). Here is another thread on that -

http://forums.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=006413

Kelly

Re: opinions needed

I have a 19'cc, if you like to stand and cast its OK, but if you troll very often, or go out with kids and/or the wife, you will like something with a windshield much better. Most of the time a smaller cc will have less room and storage than a side or duel console design. There is no good way to get out of the weather on CC, if your hard core it's not a problem, but the rest of the family will want a windshield.
