So, I found this Cougar MTR 21 for sale:

1995 Cougar MTR 21 powerboat for sale in New York

I've seen a few Cougars over the years, but really have no knowledge of the boat or company, other than they used to be built in Kelowna. I wonder if any of you have any experience, info or opinions on this boat. I've noticed that the ad lists 2 different years, and that the pictures show 2 different outboards mounted (I'm not interested in the outboard, just the hull and trailer). Any comments will be appreciated, thanks in advance. And, let's keep this quiet- If Mrs Rat finds out I'm looking at tunnel hulls again, I'll be on the couch for months. http://forums.iboats.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

Well, my Cougar Cub is not so big or so pretty, and I just happened to stumble upon it. I bought the 1984 hull for 100 bucks. However, I like it and will probably never sell it.

Cougar is out of business but did have a good reputation in racing. My little Cub is built very light for speed and did have trouble with the transom cracking off the hull. It was short shaft so I rebuilt the transom and raised it 5 inches. It attracts a lot of attention when I take it out for a spin.

If you want to see a couple of videos of it running google: youtube Frank Acampora videos.

PS: Actually, The dog, not the boat was the chick magnet.

whoa. Unless that's Mrs Rat in there, you really are risking a rocky summer. Maybe just hide the picture. I don't know the boat. "Needs interior paint" strikes me as a warning sign -- something to be looked at (want to be sure that boat wasn't dunked, for example, or at least that you know the circumstances.) Parting it out also strike me as a little strange (but selling the rig together if you want that, apparently). If it's a hull you want and the trailer is in good shape, can take a close look and make an offer -- but would want to know more about the history, I think.

(Note -- best user's tip so far is Frank's, above. Transom issues can tell you a lot about hull strength/construction, use and motor compatibility. Defects are repairable, per his description.)

This picture shows some damage to the starboard side? Looks like structural repairs we either done or need done? Hard too say which pictures are older?
